Revised Mercedes AMG GT range gets a few subtle styling tweaks, a redesigned interior and a handful of technology updates
The new Mercedes AMG GT range, first unveiled at the 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show, is now on sale, with deliveries expected start in March this year. Prices have increased by around £2,000 across the range, starting from £104,130 for the lowest-powered GT Coupe and rising to £144,230 for the range-topping GT C Roadster.
Exterior revisions are relatively minor, with the new AMG GT range receiving new LED headlamps, new daytime running lights, new tail lights, a choice of new alloy wheels, a new range of paint colours and fresh black sill covers for the GT and GT S models.

The GT’s exhaust covers have also received an update, now tailored towards each model. The standard AMG GT is fitted with new round covers, the GT S and GT C with trapezoid-shaped covers, whilst the GT R retains its central exit exhaust but gains two, rather pointless, fake exhausts to its flanks.

Mercedes’s revisions to the GT’s interior are far more involved. Inside, a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is found, plus a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a leather AMG steering wheel with integrated displays lifted from the GT 4-door coupe. It also gets the GT 4-door coupe’s colour display switchgear on the centre console, replacing the conventional buttons used before.
Technological revisions start with AMG’s Track Pace system; a data logger for the infotainment system which can track the driver’s acceleration, braking and lap times, as well as provide the driver with a map of the circuit being driven on. Famous tracks such as Spa and the Nurburgring are pre-loaded, but the system allows drivers to record their own also.
Mercedes has also tinkered with the GT’s traction control system, adding AMG DYNAMICS. Separated into “Basic,” “Advanced,” Pro,” and “Master,” modes, the system can supposedly calculate how the GT will react when being driven hard, and compensate for the driver’s shortcomings without patronising them with noticeable electronic interference.
The entire GT range is powered by a 4.0-litre, turbocharged V8 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. GT Coupe and Roadster models, (priced from £140,030 and £115,730 respectively), have outputs of 469bhp and 630Nm of torque, allowing both models tol dispatch the 0-62mph sprint in four seconds. Top speed stands at 189mph for the Coupe and 188mph for the Roadster.
Mid-range GT S models are priced from £115,305 for the Coupe and £126,905 for the Roadster. For the extra money, buyers get increased performance with 514bhp and 670Nm of torque from the same 4.0-litre V8 engine. The 0-62mph time falls to 3.8 seconds, whilst the top speed rises to 193mph for the Coupe and 191mph for the Roadster.
The GT S model gets extra equipment over the standard GT, with an electronically-controlled AMG limited-slip differential, AMG Ride Control sports suspension and the choice of either 19-inch or 20-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels.

Range-topping GT C models start at £130,505 for the Coupe and £142,105 for the Roadster. The hike in sticker price brings another increase in performance with power and torque rising to 549bhp and 680Nm. As such, the GT C’s 0-62mph time is cut by another tenth of a second over the GT S, whilst the top speed for the Coupe climbs to 197mph and the Roadster to 196mph.
Additional kit for the GT C includes AMG rear-axle steering, keyless go, electrically-folding and automatically-dimming wing mirrors, an automatically-dimming rear-view mirror, a Burmester surround sound system and a panoramic sunroof on the Coupe models.
As this is Mercedes, a range of optional extras are available, sold to buyers in packages. For example, the Premium Pack is available for the base-model GT. Priced at £3,495 for the Coupe and £2,995 for the Roadster adds the extra equipment from the GT C, including an upgraded sound system, keyless go and a panoramic roof.
The AMG Carbon Fibre package can be added for £4,495, which provides carbon fibre replacements for the GT’s rear diffuser, front splitter, air intakes and mirror caps, as well as fitting privacy glass to the rear windows.
A new, flagship AMG GT R Pro has also been introduced. It’s a more track-focussed version of the 577bhp GT R, tweaked with suspension revisions, weight saving techniques and new aerodynamics. Prices for this model are yet to be announced, but we’ll update you with the latest information as soon as its available.
