Brake Announces Police Family Liaison Officer Awards Return For 2019

Brake, the road safety charity, is delighted to announce that its Police Family Liaison Officer Awards will return in 2019, and are now open for entry.

Launched today (8 November) by Commander Stuart Cundy, NPCC lead for Family Liaison, at Brake’s annual ‘Police family liaison following road death and serious injury’ conference, the awards celebrate and raise awareness of the outstanding commitment and achievements of Police Family Liaison Officers.

Three categories will be open for nominations in 2019:

  • The ‘Outstanding Officer Achievement Award’, open for peer submissions
  • The ‘Family Award’, for families supported by a Family Liaison Officer
  • The newly introduced ‘Award for Excellent Longstanding Service’, recognising excellent dedication and commitment to family liaison.

Following a judging process, an awards ceremony will take place in summer 2019. The winners of the Awards will then be invited to present their case studies at Brake’s 2019 FLO Conference.

The awards are now open for nominations, and entry forms can be downloaded from Brake’s website at:

Helen Hargrave, Director of Victim Services at Brake, the road safety charity said: “We were delighted with the quality of nominations received in 2018, and proud to be able to help recognise and share excellent examples of support. Each entry outlined outstanding compassion and care for bereaved families. We are pleased to have introduced an additional category in 2019, helping to celebrate the longstanding achievements of officers who have provided excellent service throughout their career. The 2019 FLO Awards offer a great opportunity for families and peers to recognise the invaluable work of FLOs, and we would encourage any family or officer who feels that a FLO has gone the extra mile to nominate them for these awards.”
