Carwow Tests Various Wheel Drive Setups On Drag Race…

There is, we assure you, some equivalence going on here.  Whatever your preference – and let’s face it people do enjoy AWD, RWD and FWD for different reasons – the cars are more closely matched than you think.  That being the case, on a quick glance, which do you think will come out on top?  In theory, the AWD will get bogged down.  The RWD once it grips will power forward unrelentingly.  The FWD will grip initially but suffer into the higher top speeds.

Does the nature of the cars change your opinion?  How about a Golf R for AWD?  Maybe a Porsche Boxster for RWD?  Lastly, a Megane R.S. for FWD?  We’ll give you that this isn’t quite a chalk and chalk comparison.  However, the budgets aren’t a million miles away and all three are great examples of the drivetrain setup.  For us?  Genuinely it’s a really tough call.  Deciding what you need your car for on a day to day basis might help you decide on which is best for you…
