Mazda Europe promotes veteran styling exec to design boss

Mazda Europe has named Jo Stenuit, who has spent more than two decades at the automaker, as it new design boss.

Stenuit replaces Kevin Rice, who has joined Chinese automaker Chery as their new styling chief.

In his new role, Stenuit will report to Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s global design boss and Hajime Seikaku, head of r&d at Mazda Europe.

Stenuit, 49, is a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London and has held several senior design roles at Mazda. Between 2004 and 2007, he spent two years at Mazda’s Hiroshima headquarters. Stenuit helped style the interior of the Mazda CX-7 and as lead interior designer, he worked on the Mazda3 and Kiyora and Hakaze concept models.

Most recently, he has headed interior design and brand style at Mazda Europe’s HQ in Oberursel, Germany.
