Peugeot’s new 2008 and e-2008 SUVs are now on sale at prices from £26,000
The Peugeot 2008 and e-2008 SUVs are available to pre-order now, priced from £26,100 and £32,000 respectively. They’re compact crossovers, positioned below the 3008 in the French brand’s line-up and designed to rival the all-new Nissan Juke, the Skoda Kamiq and the Hyundai Kona. First deliveries are due to arrive in early 2020.
From launch, the 2008 and e-2008 will only be available in Peugeot’s GT-Line specification, with the brand’s Active, Allure and flagship GT trims following early next year. Standard equipment for the launch edition cars includes a set of 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a black tailgate spoiler, a contrasting black roof, a dark chrome radiator grille and a sporty body kit with a matte chrome chin spoiler and a faux diffuser.

Inside, the 2008 GT Line features half-leather upholstery with lime green stitching, heated front seats, a leather sports steering wheel, aluminium pedals, automatic air conditioning and an eight-colour customisable ambient lighting system. Buyers also get a digital instrument binnacle 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with TomTom navigation.
The GT Line version of the 2008 comes with a host of standard-fit convenience technology, too, including a 180-degree reversing camera, a wireless smartphone charger, a voice recognition system, four USB sockets and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Buyers can also choose from a range of optional equipment, including an active blind-spot monitoring system (£200), adaptive cruise control (£300), an automated parking system (£250), a premium FOCAL surround sound stereo system (£590) and multi-way electrically adjustable Nappa leather front seats with a massage function for the driver (£1,500).
Engines and fuel economy
The first Peugeot 2008s will be offered with a choice of three powertrains. The cheapest model is fitted with Peugeot’s 128bhp turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech petrol engine, which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard – although buyers can opt for an eight-speed automatic for an extra £1,550.

Peugeot’s turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel is priced from £26,500. It develops 99bhp and 250Nm of torque – and it’s only available with a six-speed manual transmission. Peugeot claims its BlueHDi diesel gives the 2008 a top speed of 115mph, emissions figures of between 96 and 102g/km of CO2 and a fuel economy figure of 54.4mpg.
The range-topping e-2008 is powered by the same 134bhp electric motor and 50kWh battery pack as the new e-208 supermini, giving the SUV a claimed maximum range of 193 miles. When plugged into a domestic 7.4kW wall-box charger, a full charge takes seven-and-a-half hours – although the battery pack also offers support for 100kW fast-charging, which allows it to recover an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
New 2019 Peugeot 2008: design and platform
Peugeot hopes the new 2008 will emulate the sales success of its superstar sibling, the 3008, by borrowing aspects of its design and product image. Guillaume Clerc, project leader for the new 2008 and 208, said this latest compact crossover aims to offer “the spirit of the 3008” in a smaller, less expensive package.

In the metal, the 2008 looks remarkably like a shrunken 3008, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s not much smaller than the larger SUV, either; it’s only 150mm shorter, even though it sits on PSA’s new small-car CMP architecture.
Peugeot’s design team, led by exterior styling director Yann Beurel, has given the 2008 plenty of character of its own. The all-LED lighting features claw and fang-like daytime running lights, while sharp triangular “scalps” join the bodywork above the wheels to form a single line across the doors. The 2008’s rear is also familiar, with a black plastic strip joining the LED light clusters to accentuate the car’s width, while a black roof is standard on top GT and GT Line cars.
Interior quality is excellent. There are more soft-touch surfaces than in Volkswagen’s small SUVs, while the central section of the dashboard wraps around into the doors and features a carbon-fibre-like finish that’s soft to the touch.

Also, there’s more space inside than the outgoing 2008, thanks to a 60mm longer wheelbase, an overall length that’s up by 140mm, and an increase in width of 30mm. It means even with a six-foot tall driver, someone of similar height can sit behind them comfortably. The boot is bigger, too – up 10 litres to 434 litres, with a false floor that can be positioned to create additional space underneath (probably for charging cables in the EV).
From next year, the 2008’s engine range will be bolstered by two further versions of PSA’s turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, with the current unit being joined by a 99bhp entry-level variant and 153bhp flagship model. The former will only be available with a six-speed manual, while the latter will be mated to an eight-speed automatic.
