The new Volvo XC40 has been worth the wait, with classy styling and quality cabins it is a hard act to beat
Compared to some of its main rivals, Volvo’s SUV heritage is a little limited, but that hasn’t stopped it from building some of the very best SUVs and crossovers money can buy – the Swedish brand picked up two prizes at the 2018 Auto Express New Car Awards.
The XC40 looks sharp, packs a strong mix of technology and as it’s a Volvo there is a healthy dollop of safety features, too. The engine range consists of efficient and powerful three- and four-cylinder engines which help put the XC40 ahead of the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 in the premium small SUV class.
• Volvo XC40 review
Its driving experience is more comfy than sporty, with it taking motorway driving in its stride. Practicality is good, with plenty of space inside for driver and passengers, while the ample boot space helps make it a good choice for family buyers.
